Low Tatras - SLOVAKIA


Low Tatras mountains in the geomorphological unit in the Western Carpathians in Slovakia. In the central part of the mountain it was declared a national park - NAPANT. Geomorphological unit is divided into two geomorphological subregions: Ďumbierske Tatra Mountains in the west and Kráľovohoľské Tatry in the eastern part, which are separated by valleys and brooks Boca Štiavnička.

The Low Tatras are the High Tatras second most visited mountains in Slovakia. In recent years, there arose a number of new hotels, camping sites, chairlifts, lifts, tourism resorts and tourism. Nevertheless, especially in the eastern part, between Čertovica and Kráľova hoľa, that there are still real rainforest forests, with abundant wildlife (among other populated brown bear). There may undertake many interesting hikes. For tourists it is an attractive stretch of the ridge from Chopok to Čertovica, which offers beautiful views of the Low Tatra valleys in the north and the south.

Cottages and cabins best equipped centers of tourism are in the midst of the Low Tatras, in two valleys under Chopok, the most beautiful part of the main ridge. In the northern part is the Demänovská Valley with recreational settlements at the entrance to the valley, the Lucky Záhradky and Jasna. In the south lies the Swift Valley centers Tale Heart and Kosodrevina and recreational village of Krpáčovo. In the central part of the mountain is a ski resort in the saddle Čertovica. Other accommodation Bocianska are in the valley, lying in the picturesque villages Vyšná Boca and Nižná Boca.

In the western part of the mountain is the main starting point for hikes Donovaly village in the eastern part Liptovská Teplička and Telgárt. The main tourist areas Chopok starting in the north (Demänovská Valley) Liptovský Mikuláš; Chopok-south (Bystrá Valley, Krpáčovo) again Podbrezová and Brezno. In 1964 the tourist resorts in the valley Demänovská created a separate administrative unit - village Demänovská Dolina.

The Low Tatras provides opportunities for swimming (Besenova, Krpáčovo, Liptovská Mara, Liptovský Ján, Tatralandia, Tále) and visits to caves (Bystrianska cave, ice cave, cave of freedom, Cave of dead bats, cave Važecká). In 1978, the Low Tatras are the area 81 095 ha declared a national park (NAPANT).
